ABOUT ME

I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Architecture from Swinburne University of Technology with strong technical skills in Revit-based documentation, 3D modelling and parametric design. Experienced in Rhino and Revit coordination using cloud-linked workflows, producing high-quality architectural visualisations using Enscape and Twinmotion, and refining outputs using the Adobe Suite. I am motivated to begin my career in a professional environment with a practical, problem-solving approach to teamwork and project outcomes.

MY STORY

I've always known architecture as the way us humans interact with our environment. It shows how culture is developed, how communities interact, what’s important in society, and is a fantastic way of showing how history has evolved through time.

I've always wanted to get into some sort of architectural design from a young age. I remember distinctly, at the age of 10, I used to draw houses, streets, and design maps of places that I imagined in my head in great detail. My parents used to laugh at me because I would spend hours on the floor with huge pieces of fish and chips paper designing all sorts of different things, rather than going out and playing sports with the other kids on the street.

At 14, I did a subject called Connections, which was a career pathway-based subject, and this was when I found out and understood the opportunity to become an architect as a profession. This is where it became my life goal to become an architect.

Through my teenage years, I then turned towards many different simulation and building games such as Cities: Skylines, The Sims, and various tycoon simulators. I fell in love with these games, spending hundreds, even thousands, of hours across them designing and creating, and I knew I had a passion for this.

During VCE, I completed the subjects VISCOM and Business Management, where I focused on how I could incorporate these subjects into my future studies and eventually into the profession I wanted to pursue. I created the idea of my own architecture business called “Billis Building Business” as motivation to work towards my career.

After completing VCE through COVID, I had the opportunity to either join the Bachelor of Architecture or go through a different route via an Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural). I spoke with an uncle who suggested that I start with the Advanced Diploma prior to joining the Bachelor.

I went through the Advanced Diploma, finding it extremely helpful for construction knowledge, NCC, Australian Standards, and other required legislation throughout every project that we completed. I completed a variety of individual projects through different stages of the design process.

After completing the Advanced Diploma, I then pursued the Bachelor of Architecture, which had a very different mindset compared to the Advanced Diploma. The Bachelor taught me how to collaborate effectively within a team and bring creativity into design, whilst the Advanced Diploma was more focused on completing projects to a high standard in the shortest amount of time possible.

I collaborated with multiple students across different subjects and projects to gain experience in creative design, analysis, model making, BIM leadership, presentation making, and marketing projects towards clients to make the projects more “sellable” to the panels that we presented our work to.

Through my studies I have found a true passion for architecture and am really interested in all aspects of design. I plan to start my career in the industry, and want to help contribute to the living environment that surrounds me.
